Casiotone 201 (CT-201) – 1980
The Casiotone 201 (CT-201) is the first electronic musical instrument from CASIO, introduced in 1980 with the goal of bringing the joy of music to everyone. At a time when learning multiple instruments was costly and time-consuming, and existing electronic instruments were complex, CASIO designed the compact, lightweight Casiotone 201 with a built-in speaker, making it easy and fun to explore music.
This innovative keyboard allowed users to play 29 different instrument sounds, from piano and organ to more exotic tones, offering a versatile musical experience in a single instrument. Hailed as a “third type of instrument”—neither an electric organ nor a synthesizer—it quickly became a global phenomenon, inspiring a new way of enjoying music.
